We Race Karts (aka Karts aka WRK)![]() Game: We Race Karts Developer: Brandon Swift (of Ambition Inc.) Estimated Percent Done: 7% Estimated Release Date: Summer 2008 OS: Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista Description: We Race Karts is a go kart racing game currently being developed by Full Time Student, Brandon Swift. Its being developed using the Ultimate3D 2.0 engine found at http://Ultimate3D.org. Ultimate3D is a free DLL for use with Game Maker Software which is found at http://yoyogames.com. While the story is still sketchy, this game will be aimed to entertain a younger audience and those who love the classic racing games of Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart 64. Because of its up to date graphics and a great story W.R.K. is being developed with commercial intentions, and is being copyrighted to hopefully be sold in the future. A preview of Karts is now available to download until the 26th of October. Feel Free to email Brandon at MrUlukai@gmail.com for comments and suggestions. Also Sign up in my forums keep updated. You can also use THIS FORM CLICK HERE! as an easier way to communicate privately. Lastly, you can just post in this topic =D About Demo: This demo is only a preview of the WRK Engine. Critical analysis of the models themselves are not really necessary but will be accepted. When testing the demo please keep track of your highest and lowests FPS. Also play the game on many different settings. Im looking for an overview on the performance of the game (how smooth it runs). I wish to see screenshots on how the bump mapping and textures look on different PC's. Comparisons of how the game performs on High and Low Textures, and with Reflection on and off. I want to know if the loading mechanism works correctly. And of course and suggestions questions and comments. PLEASE DO NOT STEAL TEXTURES and MODELS. Just ask and maybe I can hook you up with some. Sry that its such a big file. I was supposed to prune the unused stuff out but simply didnt feel like it =P. Press Any Key when on the screen display your computers information. It will then Promt you for game settings. Controls: Up arrow - Move Foward Down Arrow - Move backward Left Arrow - Turn Left Right Arrow -Turn Right Space Bar - To Brake (causes drift... at times..) F12 - Restarts game. Hold Enter untill it prompts for settings. F6 - Opens and Closes Swift Console v0.6 F7 - Gets last string entered into console. Camera: Press the Digit 0 and move use the mouse to free roam around your kart. Press the Digit 3 for first person. Press Digits 1 & 2 for fixed positions. Press the Digit 0 and Use the mouse wheel to zoom closer and further away from kart. Press the Digit 0 to reset camera behind Kart F9 - Take Screenshots. Im not supposed to hotlink files. Also do not upload this demo anywhere else. Thanks) We all need encouragement when working on projects. So encourage me!! lolz. Nah but for real. I have College work and all this crap, but this is what I like to do. Just need to stop procrastination. Click here to Download. It will take you to the Work In Progress Page, and the direct Link is at bottom of text =D. Oooh Yea... Its around 30mb, dialupers beware... hopefully this is the last edit... Nope it isnt. 1. It's isometric-ish. It seems to have the orthographic views set on. This is really disorientating. (Everything below with be something you know) 2. The wheels don't turn. 3. The walls are like glue. |

Are your collisions based on 2d or 3d with the walls? If there 2d, you can goto the GMC and pick yourself up a car example, the ones with the most replies are usually good. Then base your work off that. Good work.

Hey Zedman! Ya everything is pretty much done in 3D. Path finding, collisions, all that mess is pretty much done with raycasting and wut not. Tuturials are more than welcome for 3D stuff. Thanks for the response =D. Brandon. |

I commend you for posting a demo. However, the game was very laggy with all special fx at minimal and the wall collisions weren't smooth. Since your in college, I suggest studying trigonometry to find out how to apply smooth wall response based on normal vectors. Or you could ask the U3d community for an example in the Tutorials section. I am a bit busy with my level designer, plus I have not yet successfully acquired a collision normal, so I don't think I should be the one you should ask for normal-vector detection response assistance. |

Hey Eanbro! Thanks for responding. Im pretty sure I'll take Trig some time soon, maybe next semester or the start of my sophmore year. Yea I had a topic in Questions forum, and it didnt really help me all that much. I appreciate those who tried to help. But as for the collisions, Ill most definately continue working on how smooth it is. But from my experience with go karts, when you collide with a rail, its really not all that smooth. Especially colliding at full speed. but I will continue to work on it, so its not so annoying. =D. Also whats your PC Specs and how was your fps. Brandon. |

I got 40 to 60 FPS (I think) on full settings. If it isn't at a 60 FPS max, then I probably had full FPS when the water wasn't too visible. Dang man, the first time I downloaded it, it worked and was 33 MB. Now I'm only downloading 32.2 MB, and it seems corrupted. Meh. I've got GeForce Go 7300, two 1.83 GHz processors, and 1 gig of RAM, which the only real RAM is 256 MB. The rest is somewhere else on my PC, which is why I really can't see the water or I get a huge performance drop. |

I couldn't see the fps because the resolution was too high. It looked like it ran pretty smooth though on full settings. My rough specs: Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz 1024 MB RAM GeForce 8800 GTS PCI-E, 650MB DDR3 |
