Just to let you guys know, I'm not dropping Abduction, but at the moment, I am focusing my attention on the community project. It may be a while before I get back to Abduction. When I do, I might end up dropping the GM version and rebuilding it in C++, though. |

Ok, as of last Friday, Abduction (at least for GM) is officially dead. My mom's laptop got a virus or something, and it can't find the operating system on most boot-ups. When it does, it enters an endless loop of loading Windows, then restarting the computer, then loading Windows, restarting, etc., and has to be turned off to end it. My brother has an Ubuntu boot disc that he made, and works perfectly on any other computer, but can't be recognized by my mom's laptop's disc drive for some strange reason. As soon as we figure out a way to get my mom's data off of the hard drive (I'm not attached to any of my data, so I'm not going to clutter up value back-up space on my flashdrive with it), we're going to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows on it. So, Abduction is officially dead for GM. I might rebuild it in C++, but I'll need to rebuild all the models and textures (probably needed to anyway). I'm trying to look at the issue as a way to get away from GM, though, as I don't have it on any of the other computers in the house, and I only have one install left before I need to buy a new license. |

You know what I would do? Install it one more time on that failing hard drive and then reformat the hard drive. Have fun. UDK and Unity are free. Both are very good and have support for Blender in the pipeline. |

Been there. I never solved it though, I just poped in the Windows CD and formated the sucker. Always have Windows installed on a separate partition so you don't have to format your whole drive and loose everything. That's just stupid. Edited by Despellanion, Dec 1 2009, 10:28 AM.

Been there, solved it to, as on dell laptops they have this factory restore thing, but it was okay as i hand't had time to install anything but Dawn Of War : Soul Storm (my favorite game) in the half a week i'd had it  |

My mom bought it with Windows on it, so it was never partitioned. It only had about 14 GB left of its small hard drive anyway, and had been slowing down recently, so it needs all the important data to be backed up and the hard drive wiped. |

been there too solved it by replacing the lithium battery in my comp. it is constantly draining even while your comp is off. it lasts about 6 years. |

Good news: we don't have the data backed up yet, but my mom ordered an USB to SATA cable yesterday, so we should be able to hook the laptop's hard drive up to my dad or my brother's computer and back it up on some disks or flash drives. |

The laptop is finally up and running again, but I don't have GM on it, and I don't intend to. I'm trying to use this event to my advantage. I just installed the Blender 2.5 Alpha, and I still need to install GIMP, Visual C++, the drivers for my pen tablet, and the DirectX SDK, or something like Ogre3d. |
